Diploma in Hearing, Language and Speech

DHLS stands for Diploma in Hearing, Language and Speech is a diploma level course of 1 years. The aim of the DHLS course is to train a class of persons and equip them with basic skills for providing speech-language therapy, for conducting programs for early identification of persons with communication disorders, educating members of the community on prevention of communication disorders, conducting basic audiological testing, and for advising the hearing impaired at village, block/taluka and town levels. They will work under the guidance of a fully trained graduate or a postgraduate Speech & Hearing clinician DHLS course trains students to become audiologists and speech-language pathologists. They learn methods to treat, identify, and prevent hearing, balance and communication disorders in people.

Level - Diploma

As per RCI Notification of 2015, the nomenclature of the program shall be Diploma in Hearing, Language and Speech. DHLS is the short form.

Duration - 1 Years

The duration of the course will be one year, which can be completed in a maximum of two years from the date of admission to the programme.

DHLS Entrance Examination Pattern 2023

The Entrance examination for DHLS admissions are conducted by respective Universities or Colleges. The applicant/candidate should have subjects Physics, Chemistry and any one of the subject Biology / Mathematics to qualify the examination criteria. The Question paper consist of equal portions from all the eligible subjects. Few universities probe reasoning and general knowledge questions in their respective entrance exams. Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) is a statutory body created under the Rehabilitation Council of India Act, 1992. RCI is entrusted with the twin responsibility of regulating and monitoring the training of personnel in the disability sector, and maintaing a Central Rehabilitation Resister. Any Professional in the disability sector wishing to practice in the area of any disability should not only possess a graduate/diploma degree recognized by the RCI, but should also be registered with the RCI and inculded in the Central Rehabilitation Register.
